On a day where those who do not spend their time regaled in the presence of others, it is a source of loneliness and torment. "Singles Awareness", they call it. Hardly such a thing, really. More a day for people to flaunt their happiness and popularity in the face of the less fortunate. Saint Valentine gave his life for love forbidden, and now we honor him with cheap chocolates and uncreative Hallmark cards. Only difference between this and Easter is religion, really. Still, for a shut-in it's not so bad. Avoid the internet for a day or two and it's fine. Doesn't mean the loneliness won't kick in, but it's there regardless. What can you do, right? Still, patience is a virtue.

"One day," they hope, "One day I'll find love. It'll be easy. She'll be right there, waiting." Ever notice how it's always guys saying it? Maybe girls just have a harder time admitting it, or are better coping mechanisms. Either way, it's always guys complaining. Guys who believe patience and kindness is all you need. What foolishness.

I don't enjoy Valentines, but I accept it for what it is. Cheap chocolates and uncreative Hallmark cards to celebrate the death of a Saint and Capone's shooting. Heck, Saint Valentine himself was overshadowed by the mobster. If it's not cheap chocolates, it's gunshots. Disgusting.

Still, for the patient ones who can see their goals in site, what's the difference? A spouse, a career, both are goals that require incredible amounts of effort. There isn't some magical cupid that'll shoot you in the ass and make your love problems go away, unfortunately for us all. But hey, you've always got cheap chocolates and Hallmark on your side.
Call me a cynic, but that's sums up my thoughts on Valentines.

Personally, even being in a relationship, I find it to be a worthless holiday.  You pay too much money for something that has little to no value and that is not worth the commotion.  On the bright side, you get to go to work and earn more money because everybody else is out spending it.
